Obituary

Charles A. Johnson, age 76, of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away surrounded by his family at home on Tuesday, June 2, 2026.

The son of Larsh Eldon Johnson and Alberta Adeline (Walker) Johnson was born in Harrison on September 1, 1949. He was a 1967 graduate of Pyatt High School and a lifelong resident of Marion and Boone Counties. He attended Woodland Church.

Charles enlisted in the US Air Force in 1968 and was stationed at Blytheville Air Force Base. He proudly served his country for 4 years and was honorably discharged in 1972 with the rank of Seargent.

Shortly after the military, Charles began his long and devoted career to the US Postal Service. He ran mail routes all over the city of Harrison for 33 years. During that time, he developed many long-lasting friendships with not only the people on his route, but his coworkers.

Charles loved family time and lake life, and life was even sweeter when those two things happened at the same time. He was a talented skier and loved to slalom ski while spraying the perfect rooster tail back and forth across the waves, while his family cheered him on. After retirement, he enjoyed going to auctions and taking care of his neighbors. Another of his passions was his 1988 Toyota Pickup – he was proud of that truck and always kept it running and looking great.

He was an avid hunter; he spent his life hunting and always on the lookout for the next trophy buck or gobbler. The hunting trips he took with his dad and brother were some of the best times they spent together.

Charles was the owner of the neighborhood “hardware store” if you didn’t have a tool, nut, or bolt, you knew to just ask Charles. He would surely have it in his meticulously arranged tool cabinets and drawers. He took care of everyone, even mowing their yards when they were gone on vacation. He also took care of the neighborhood pests, serving as the self-appointed animal control of Wingate. When he wasn’t caring for his neighbors, he could be found taking care of Ivone’s friends that needed things fixed or yard work done.

Beyond his giving and true neighborly spirit, Charles was stoic. He never complained, and he never liked to let anyone know anything was wrong. He was a loving and devoted husband, and a caring and gentle father and grandfather. His eyes lit up in the presence of his grandkids and his great grandkids. He was loved and respected by his family and his many friends, and he will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his father. Larsh Eldon Johnson.

Charles is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ivone Rosa Johnson; his mother, Alberta Adeline Johnson; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Kevin Morrison and Karen and Stuart Quackenbush; his brother, Larsh "Eldon" Johnson, Jr., and wife Rosel; two sisters, Joyce Ann Melton and husband, Ray and Carolyn Sue Eckman and husband Pat; six grandchildren, Kailey (Matthew) Brown, Grace (Brody) Linge, Kaylee (Blake) Ivy, Archimedes Quackenbush, Nicholai Quackenbush, and Escher Quackenbush; three great grandchildren, Deaglan Brown, Laithan Brown, and Lennox Linge; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear neighbors and friends.

A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM at George's Creek Cemetery. Pastor Heath Kirkpatrick will officiate.

Pallbearers are his grandchildren.
