Cdr James
Franklin Owens
August 27, 1933 – July 4, 2023
James Franklin Owens passed away peacefully into the presence of his Savior, Jesus, on July 4, 2023 at the Springs of Harrison.
James was born August 27, 1933 to Susie Crudginton and Leonard Hayes Owens in Canyon, Texas.
He enlisted in the Navy after high school during the Korean Conflict. He came back to graduate from West Texas State University, returning to Naval Air as a navigator on P-2 anti-submarine aircraft. During Vietnam, he served with a River Patrol Unit in the Mekong Region.
CDR Owens retired in 1979 and moved to the Ozarks which he loved in contrast to the panhandle of Texas where he grew up. He loved his cattle and working with his children showing Shorthorns. He served on the District Fair Board for several years. He had been a member of Eagle Heights Baptist Church.
He married his wife, Gale (Gordon) while serving together at the Naval Base in Pensacola, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Gale, of 56 years of the home. He is also survived by his daughter, Debora (Ron) Grove of Beaverton, OR; daughter, Wendy (Mark) Powell of Joshua, TX; and son, Daniel Owens (fiancée, Michelle Post) of Wichita, KS. They share five grandchildren, Noah and Evan Grove, and Allison, Emily and Rebecca Owens.
His favorite activities revolved around his ranch and cattle, boating on Bull Shoals Lake and entertaining his children and grandchildren.
His family is especially appreciative of the loving care he received from Dr. Stacy Armstrong and the staff of the Springs of Harrison, who went out of their way to ensure his comfort and well-being.
There will be a private memorial service at a later date. Burial is in Maplewood Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison. On-line condolences can be left at www.coffmanfh.com .
