Obituary

Carolyn Griffith Moffett, 93, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed from this life surrounded by her family on Friday, January 14, 2022. She died on the anniversary of the death of her husband, the love of her life, 14 years previously.

Carolyn, the daughter of John C. Griffith and Lena Bell Price Griffith was born on March 20, 1928 in Mansfield, Louisiana, the fourth of six children. A gifted singer, she graduated from Texas State College for Women with a bachelor's in vocal music in 1949. On March 5, 1950 she married Jesse Robert Moffett, of Dilley, Texas. She and Bob first lived in Mexico City, where he worked for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. It was there she started work on her teacher's certification, a career she pursued while living in Latin America with Bob and their four children in support of his work for the Peace Corps and the U.S. Dept. of State. She became a dedicated special education teacher in Panama and La Paz, Bolivia.

A lifetime member of the Methodist Church and always an active choir participant, Carolyn graced every church they attended with her beautiful voice throughout their 26 years of travels in seven different countries. An accomplished pianist, she practiced regularly and passed her love of music on to each generation of her family. At the age of 57, while living in Costa Rica, she began to paint, discovering an innate talent that improved over the years. She continued painting into her late 80s and filled her home with beautiful images of the colorful people and places where she had lived.

When Bob retired in 1987 and they settled in Arkansas, they became active members of the Diamond City United Methodist Church, and later the First United Methodist Church when they moved to Harrison in 1997. She was a member of the Hope and Hoe Garden Club and she served as a volunteer at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison for many years. She was a remarkable and honorable woman, dedicated to her family above all else, impacting the lives of her tightly knit circle of family and friends with her fierce love, open-mindedness, acceptance, and deep faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Robert Moffett, her son, Jesse Moffett Jr., and her daughter, Dr. Shirolyn Moffett.

She is survived by her sister, Lena Savarese of Regina, Saskatchewan, her daughter, Theo Lane Moffett and husband John Foley of Eureka Springs, her daughter Genie Moffett of Harrison; her eight grandchildren, Genie Allen Gross and Gary Gross, Samuel Moffett Allen and Vanessa Allen, Sara Allen Gibbs and Joshua Gibbs, Dustin Pitre, Leah Allen and Joe Donahue, Rebecca McFarland, Jessie Lane Pitre, and Amy McFarland, and her seven great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service will be held in the spring. It is the grateful wish of the family that any memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Harrison, 1100 W. Bower Ave.
