Obituary

Carl D. Bell, formerly of Harrison, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2023 surrounded by his family, at the age of 79.

The son of Lloyd Dean Bell and Iola Mae (Mostellar) Trost was born April 26, 1944 in Bell Hollow, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Green Forest High School and a lifelong resident of Carroll and Boone Counties. His most treasured childhood memories were spent at the farm on Highway 103 in Green Forest with his Grandma Flossie, and his beloved aunts, and uncles.

Carl graduated from the Dallas Institute-Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science on August 28, 1964, and began a 48-year calling to Funeral Service. He also attended the National Foundation of Funeral Service School of Management and received a certificate in Techniques in Funeral Service. He had worked for Duncan Funeral Home in Mountain View, Missouri, and Nelson Funeral Service in Berryville. He devoted nearly 20 years to Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison before retiring in 2012. Carl loved working in funeral service and even after retiring, kept up with industry changes and funeral news. During his many years of service, he was a wonderful mentor to many of his co-workers and was very respected in his profession.

Carl was a devout Catholic and longtime member of Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Harrison. His faith was very important to him, and he enjoyed having bible studies with his grandchildren.

He was a caring, compassionate, and thoughtful father, grandfather, and friend. He was tremendously proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Carl enjoyed flower gardening, landscape design, and bird watching. He was a gifted floral artist and was the previous owner of the Flower Garden. He also enjoyed walking regularly outdoors and watching the sunrise and sunset.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Iola Mae Trost; father, Lloyd Bell; Irvon "Von" Gregory; grandparents, Charlie and Flossie Mostellar; aunts, Velma Livingston and Ruth Daniels; uncle, Ray Mostellar; and the mother of his children, Lynn Hobbs.

Carl is survived by his daughters, Carla Tuttle Bailey (David), and Victoria "Vicki" Hathorn; six grandchildren, Brandon Tuttle (Morgan), Lucas Tuttle (Keisha), Carlie Faith Tuttle Bailey, Chase Hathorn (Hanna), Kayelin Hathorn, and Dylan Hathorn (Erin); eight great grandchildren, Hayden, Olivia, Claire, Jack, Ollie-Jo, Cooper, and Avery; Lana Piland and her children; his cherished friends from Ocoee Cove, John and Jana Putman, Ben Naumann, and Liz Torgerson, and many extended relatives and dear friends and colleagues. He is also survived by his beloved yorkie companion, Rip.
