Betty Katherine James, a beloved mom, devoted wife, and cherished grandmother, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, in Harrison, Arkansas, at the age of 92.
The daughter of Bryce Howard and Mary Margarette (Mosely) Sanford was born on February 4, 1934, in Elyria, Ohio, her life was a tapestry woven with love, creativity, and warmth that touched all who knew her.
Betty was a spirited woman, known for her infectious love for life and her family. She worked diligently to create a home filled with laughter, kindness, and strong family bonds. She was the loving wife of Fred James, who preceded her in death, and their partnership was a testament to enduring love and commitment.
As a devoted mother, she nurtured her children, Ralph James, Kathy James, and Kimberly James, instilling in them values of compassion and hard work. Her proud legacy continued through her grandchildren: Brittany Yount and her husband, Chris, Jared James and his wife, Jamie, Hanna Coffman, Nathan Scarlett and his wife, Teena, and Lena Heft and her husband, Daniel. The laughter and joy of these grandkids filled her heart with pride and happiness.
Betty's home was a hub of creativity; she was an avid artist and crafter, expressing her love through her beautifully crafted creations. As a dedicated member of a quilting club, she found joy and camaraderie with friends while sharing stories and skills. Her passion for reading and gardening further reflected her nurturing spirit, cultivating both beautiful blooms and sweet memories.
Betty was also blessed with a growing family, including her great-grandchildren: Zayd, Jace, Elzie, Emmory, Ontario, Jesse, Olivia, Emelie, Shae, Matthew, Alexandria, Bartholomew, Gabriel, and Caleb. The joy of having 15 great-great-grandchildren filled her life with an immeasurable sense of fulfillment, as each new addition brought a smile to her face.
Betty is predeceased by her loving husband, Fred, her parents, one sister, Mary Lou, and two brothers, Bobby and Patty. While their absence leaves a void in the lives of her family, the love and lessons they shared will forever remain in their hearts.
As we gather to celebrate Betty’s life, we invite family and friends to a visitation at Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison on March 10, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Pastor Johnny Walters will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, near Yellville. Pallbearers are Jared James, Zayd Yount, Nathan Scarlett, Bartholomew Heft, Jace James, and Caleb Heft.
Betty's legacy of love, creativity, and family will endure through the lives she touched. Her spirit will forever reside in the hearts of her loved ones, echoing in the stories shared and memories made. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the immense love she cultivated in her lifetime.
Memorial contributions may be given to, Ralph James, who will share those donations between three separate charities.
