Obituary

Betty Hammon, age 98, of Harrison, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013.

She was born in Topeka, Kansas on November 3, 1914, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Mitchell.

In 1915, the family moved to Harrison, Arkansas where her father was an official with the M&N.A. Railroad for many years.

Ms. Hammon was a graduate of Harrison High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1937 from Hendrix College.

In 1946, at the conclusion of World War II, she married Albert R. Hammon. The couple lived in Conway and then Little Rock, Arkansas while he received his medical education.

They returned to Harrison in 1952 where Dr. Hammon practiced medicine for over forty years.

Ms. Hammon was active in the Women's Medical Auxiliary for many years. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church for over fifty years.

Preceded in death by her parents and husband, she is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Services for Ms. Hammon was held Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison. Visitation was held immediately preceding the service. Burial followed in Maplewood Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, the Albert R. Hammon Memorial Scholarship Fund, or the North Arkansas Regional Medical Center.
