Marie Elizabeth "Betsy" Cash, age 77, of Valley Springs, Arkansas, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center.
The daughter of Brough and Faye Belle (Cook) Cash was born in Marshall, Arkansas on January 4, 1946. She graduated from Valley Springs High School in 1963. After high school, she attended Ouachita Baptist University graduating with a degree in Social Studies. She would later attend Kansas State University and earn her degree in Elementary Physical Education.
Betsy was active in her community as a longtime member of The First Baptist Church Valley Springs and serving on the Valley Springs City Council. She was also involved in the creation of the Valley Springs Foundation and served on its board.
She was a devoted educator, whose kind, loving spirit impacted the lives of countless students throughout the years. Betsy taught at Bergman and Valley Springs most of her teaching career, retiring in 2007. She coached cheerleading at Bergman, taking several groups to state and national competitions. She served as Athletic Director at Bergman and Valley Springs and was a P.E. Coach at both campuses.
Betsy loved to play bridge and bunco. She was an avid gardener, proudly providing fresh garden veggies to family and friends. She was an amazing cook, especially when it came to family gatherings. She also enjoyed traveling and going on cruises. Betsy was a loving and loyal companion, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her kind and generous nature was always on display, and she loved everyone. If she knew you, you were special to her.
She was deeply loved by all who knew her, and her absence will be felt by many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Brough and Faye Belle Cash; her daughter, Tanya Hoppis; her father and mother-in-love, G.B. and Edna Young; brothers-in-love, Danny Young, Kenneth Young, and Chuck Browder; and sister-in-love, Shirley Cox.
Betsy is survived by the love of her life and companion of 23 years, Jerry "Peanut" Young; her son, Tyler Miller; her brothers, Larry (Jane) Cash and Jerry (Pat) Cash; her bonus children, Doug (Nena) Young and Melissa (Phillip) Stolte; son-in-law, Duane Hoppis; 8 grandchildren, Aiden, Austin, Sean, Nadi, Brianna, Savannah, Robert, and Emanuel; and several great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-love, Steve (Teresa) Miller, Sharon Browder, Rick (Cheri) Young, and Ron Cox; a host of nieces, nephews, her beloved "Little Bit" who was always by her side; many extended relatives and countless dear friends who will miss her dearly.
Funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Friday, October 27, 2023 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison. Pastor Sean Milliken and Pastor Carl Garvin will officiate. Burial will follow at Crawford Cemetery near Everton.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 26 from 6 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Jason Cash, Wade Cash, Brian Cash, Ron Cox, Rick Young, and Jimmy Young.
