Bernice Richard "Bernie" Spears, of The Colony, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 25, 2024 at his home.  He was 86 years old.

The son of Roy and Ruby (Wright) Spears was born on March 3, 1937 in Albany, Kentucky.

Bernie was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked for over 40 years as a cross country truck driver.  Bernie attended the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Alvarado, TX and after moving to Newton County, Arkansas he became a member of Wayton Freewill Baptist Church.  He loved Gospel Bluegrass (singing and playing). In fact, while growing up in Bowling Green, Kentucky, during the 1950's, he played gospel music on the radio with his family in a group introduced as "The Spears Family".  He was a wonderful guitar player and earned his first quarter playing his guitar. Bernie loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Tammie Spears; one son, Rich Spears; an infant grandson, Max Spears; and his parents.

Survivors include three children, Jan Romero and husband, Floyd, Roger Spears and wife, Jennifer, and Kina Spears; three grandchildren, Mason, Maddison, and Roger; one great grandson, Ezequiel; two brothers, Russ Spears and Charles Spears and wife, Pam; one sister, Wilma Mitchell and husband, Bill; and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral service will be held at Wayton Freewill Baptist Church in Wayton, AR on Friday, March 1, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Brother Tony Taylor will officiate.  Burial will be in Wayton Cemetery.

There is no visitation.
