Barbara Jo Henderson, age 74, went to be with the Lord on December 23, 2011 at Hospice of the Hills Hospice House in Harrison, Arkansas. She was born August 15, 1937 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Rymer and Edith Twyman.
Barbara was a resident of Newton County. She retired in 2010 from Jasper Department of Human Services. She was an active member of Parthenon First Baptist Church and served as their song leader and treasurer. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing, as well as, traveling and spending time with her family. Barbara had a generous and loving heart. She was always helping others. She volunteered her time at the Newton County Christian Food Room and served on the Jasper Alumni Association Committee.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, V.J. Henderson. She is survived by her sister, Sarai Johnson, of Englewood, Colorado and by her children, Karen Brasel and husband Harold of Jasper, Cheryl Freeman and husband David of Pelsor, Junior Shelton of Harrison, Joey Shelton and wife Vickey of Harrison, Ricky Henderson and wife Melissa of Jasper, and Michael Henderson and wife Melissa of Jasper. Barbara is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Services honoring Barbara were held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at Parthenon First Baptist Church with her Pastor Jamey James, officiating. Burial followed in Union Hill Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, December 27, 2011 at Coffman Chapel at Jasper.
Pallbearers were Aaron Brasel, Josh Freeman, Cole Shelton, Kristopher Shelton, Riley Shelton, Jamison Foster, and Greg Smith. Trent Shelton, Jade Shelton, Ryan Johnson, and Brad Johnson were honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that monetary donations be made in Barbara's memory to the Newton County Christian Food Room at P.O. Box 252 Jasper, AR 72641.
Barbara is loved by many and will be greatly missed.
