Athel Nichols Maupin, age 88 of Western Grove, Arkansas, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 10, 2022 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.

The son of Thed and Audra (Maupin) Perkins was born June 13, 1933 in Ashland, Oklahoma.  He was adopted and raised by his Grandpa Maupin near Bethlehem in Newton County.

In 1956, Athel married Daphfeen Hill and together they had two children.  As a young man, he was employed by Dan's Spring Shop and Midwest Wool in Kansas City.  Athel was also employed by Anchor Post in Harrison, where he retired after 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Daphfeen; two step granddaughters, Diana Gail Smith and Kathy Christian; one step grandson, David Christian and a step great granddaughter, Christy Royce.

Athel is survived by his two children, Donna Ruff (Dannie) of Mount Judea and Allan "Buck" Nichols of Western Grove; three step-children, Genice Royce (Joe) of Mount Judea, Clifford Christian (Karen) of Bellefonte and Steve Christian (Brenda Kay) of Springdale; two grandchildren, Barbara Marshall (Brent) and Daniel Ruff (Emily); seven step grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, Lexey, Kaden, Reagan, Kylee, Allison, Adeline, Oakley and Dan; a half-sister, Inis; step brother, James and a host of extended relatives.

Funeral service will be at 2 PM, Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Bethlehem Church in Mount Judea with Bro. Jerry Marshall officiating.  Burial will follow at Bens Branch Cemetery.

Visitation will be open at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison during business hours, 8 AM-5 PM on Wednesday.

Pallbearers are Dannie Ruff, Daniel Ruff, Clifford Christian, Kaden Middleton, Brent Marshall and Leslie Marshall.  Honorary pallbearers are Jack Wyatt, Stanley Royce, Wade Christian, Dr. Brent Rosson, NARMC nurses and staff and CNA, Rose.
