Obituary

Al Horton, 81 of Harrison, Arkansas passed away Monday, June 18, 2018 at NARMC in Harrison.

The son of Chester and Naomi Pearl (Henson) Horton was born June 11, 1937 at Marshall, Arkansas.  He was a member of the Red Oak Baptist Church in Harrison, where he has lived for the past 20 years.  Prior to living in Harrison, Al spent several years in California, Oklahoma and Marshall, Arkansas.

Al was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the US Navy on the USS Philippine Sea.  He and his shipmates started their own branch of the Philippine Sea Association and had reunions every year.  Al was close to his shipmates and considered them his extended family.  He was also a member of the VFW.  After his enlistment, Al took up jobs with Union Pacific in California for 20 years and truck driving in California and Oklahoma for 20 years in the oil fields.  After he retired, he was a delivery driver for O'Reilly Auto Parts in Harrison for 10 years because he loved people and enjoyed getting out and visiting on deliveries.

Al was a devoted husband and father and he loved being a grandpa, he loved his family and always remembered the good times.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, David and Sherry and two brothers, Ed and Jack.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 53 years, Trudy Horton of the home; his six children, Steven, Linda, Mary, Joe, David and Bob; 16 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 8 great great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Private family graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 22, 2018 at Canaan Cemetery at Marshall.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Red Oak Baptist Church, 1625 Hwy 62-65 N, Harrison, AR, 72601.
