Edward Byrd

Benjamin Edward Byrd, age 93 of Harrison, Arkansas passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center in Harrison.

The son of Jesse and Glenn Della Byrd was born September 13, 1918 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

He married his wife, Louise on May 12, 1940. She passed away on May 11, 2010, the day before their 70th wedding anniversary.

He was a Minister and was the first year Greek teacher at Missionary Baptist Seminary in Little Rock, Arkansas until 1952. Over the years he pastored many churches during his life time with his final ministry at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Harrison, Arkansas. He loved writing and wrote numerous doctrinal books and published the "Reminder" newspaper for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife: a granddaughter, Laura Elizabeth Raver; a great-granddaughter, Emily Grace Keener; brothers, Glenn and Cleo Byrd; and a sister, Myrtis Dozier.

Survivors are his children, Barbara Thompson and husband Clay of Madison, Wisconsin, Emma Smith and husband Carlton of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Abigail Potter and husband Edgar of Maderia, Portugal, Ben Byrd and wife Dana of Harrison, and Paula Fite and husband Frank of McComb, Mississippi; a sister-in-law, Norma Byrd of Fernandina Beach, Florida; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation was Sunday, August 26, 2012 at Coffman Funeral Home in Harrison.

Service was Monday, August 27, 2012 at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel with Edgar Potter officiating.

Burial followed in Western Grove Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were Connie and Joe Cecil, George Fletcher, and the staff of Hillcrest Home.
